Collection: Force USA

Force USA is a small, specialist part of our South African catalogue rather than a full range: air-resistance conditioning equipment built for functional training floors. We stock the Force USA R3 Air Rower and the Force USA Ski Trainer and Stand.

Why air resistance is different

Both Force USA machines use air resistance, and that mechanism behaves differently from anything with a fixed setting. A fan generates resistance in proportion to how fast you move it, so the machine gets harder the harder you pull. There is no dial to hide behind and no plateau where extra effort stops registering.

That property is why air machines remain the standard on functional training and CrossFit-style floors. It makes effort self-scaling across a mixed group — a strong athlete and a beginner can use the same machine in the same class, each working at their own limit, with no adjustment between them. For a coach running a class, that removes an entire category of setup time.

It also makes output repeatable. Because resistance is a function of your own speed, a given time or distance means the same thing session to session, which is what you need if the training is programmed rather than improvised. Fixed-resistance machines drift as pads and belts wear; an air fan does not.

The Force USA R3 Air Rower

A rower loads legs, back and arms in one movement and is among the most time-efficient conditioning machines you can put on a floor. The trade-off is technique: rowed badly it becomes a back exercise rather than a leg one, so if the machine is going into a gym with no coaching, budget some instruction alongside it.

Space-wise, a rower needs its full rail length plus room for the handle path, and a way to store it upright between sessions. Measure the rail, not the folded dimension. For other rowing options across the brands we carry, see rowing machines.

The Force USA Ski Trainer and Stand

The ski trainer is worth serious consideration where floor space is the constraint. Wall or stand mounted, it occupies a fraction of the footprint of a rower while covering similar conditioning ground — a vertical pulling pattern that loads lats, core and legs hard.

It is also one of the few conditioning machines that works well in a corner or against a wall that would otherwise be dead space. For gyms fitting out a small functional area, that footprint argument usually decides it. Confirm the anchor point before ordering if you are wall mounting, or allow for the stand footprint if you are not.

Who Force USA suits

These machines go into functional training gyms, CrossFit-style boxes, performance and sports conditioning facilities, studio floors running circuit formats, and home gyms built around conditioning rather than machines.

They are not general-purpose cardio. If the goal is steady-state training or rehabilitation, ellipticals, exercise bikes and treadmills are better suited and cost less.

Building out the conditioning floor

Pair these with the HIIT range for circuit stations, functional trainers for cable-based work, LivePro for bands, ropes, balls and mats, and gym flooring for the surface underneath. Battle ropes and power bags cover the rest of a typical conditioning station, and storage racks keep the small kit off the floor between classes.

Common questions

Is an air rower better than a magnetic one? For training that has to be repeatable and for mixed-ability groups, yes — output means the same thing every session. For a quiet flat where noise matters more than measurement, a magnetic rower is the better neighbour. Air fans are loud by design.

Can the ski trainer replace a rower? It covers similar conditioning ground in far less space, but it is a vertical pull rather than a full leg drive. If you only have room for one and the floor is space-constrained, the ski trainer wins. If leg conditioning is the priority, the rower does more.

Do these need power or a network connection? No. Air-resistance machines have no motor and nothing to plug in beyond the console battery, which is part of why they last so long on a busy floor and why they suit outdoor and covered training areas.
