Athletic Professional Cross Bike 1000BE

If you are putting together a space that has to work every day rather than look good once, the Athletic Professional Cross Bike 1000BE is worth a close look. It comes from Athletic and forms part of our exercise bikes lineup.

In plain terms, this is a exercise bike intended for regular use rather than occasional. Full specifications are shown on this page and in the product images.

Who it suits

Think home riders training year round, and spin studios and group classes. Those are the situations where this piece makes the most sense.

Getting it in place

Check the floor. Bikes concentrate weight on four small feet, so a mat protects both the surface and the machine.

Before you decide

Look at the drive system — belt drives are quieter and need less maintenance than chains.

Priced at R16 065, it is the 23rd of 61 exercise bikes we list (R3 354 to R110 618). Worth comparing before you settle.

Keep the frame and flywheel wiped down. Sweat corrodes bolts and bearings faster than use does.

On how much cardio is actually worth aiming for each week, the World Health Organization physical activity guidelines are a sensible, independent starting point.

Key points

• Brand: Athletic
• Category: Spinning Bikes & Cycles
• SKU: 4914
• Condition: new unless the listing states otherwise

Browsing options? Cardio, Spinning Bikes & Cycles, Rowing Machines and Gym Flooring are the categories most people compare this against.

Commercial and home equipment differ mainly in duty cycle — how many hours a day the frame, bearings and upholstery are designed to take. Equipment built for occasional use will usually survive a home routine comfortably but will not last on a busy floor, and the difference shows in the parts you cannot see rather than the finish.
