Athletic'spine Corrector Barrel Set

Every gym has a piece of kit that quietly does most of the work. For a lot of setups the Athletic'spine Corrector Barrel Set is that piece, and Athletic built it for the job.

Stripped of marketing language: this is a exercise bike for people who train consistently. Stated details include supplied as a set.

A good fit for

It works best for spin studios and group classes, and low-impact cardio in a small footprint. Outside that, there may be a better match in the range — ask us.

Setup notes

Confirm the footprint and leave room to mount and dismount either side. Spin bikes need less space than most cardio equipment, which is part of their appeal.

Worth thinking about

Check the adjustment range on saddle and bars. A bike that fits several riders is worth more in a shared space.

Against the other 61 exercise bikes we stock, this sits in the middle at R6 794 — the range runs R3 354 to R110 618, so there is room to move either way if the fit is not right.

Saddle comfort is the most common complaint and the easiest thing to change — most bikes take a standard post.

On how much cardio is actually worth aiming for each week, the World Health Organization physical activity guidelines are a sensible, independent starting point.

If you are planning a full setup, Cardio, Spinning Bikes & Cycles, Accessories and Rowing Machines are the sections that usually go with this.

Commercial and home equipment differ mainly in duty cycle — how many hours a day the frame, bearings and upholstery are designed to take. Equipment built for occasional use will usually survive a home routine comfortably but will not last on a busy floor, and the difference shows in the parts you cannot see rather than the finish.
