Barbell / Dumbbell Set, 20kg - Iron

The Barbell / Dumbbell Set, 20kg - Iron is one of the dumbbells options we supply to gyms and home setups across South Africa, made by Tunturi. Here is what it does and who it suits.

In plain terms, this is a dumbbell set intended for regular use rather than occasional. The listing states 20kg and supplied as a set.

Best suited to

Think home gyms building a usable weight range, and pressing, rowing and accessory work across every level. Those are the situations where this piece makes the most sense.

Fitting it into your space

Check the handle diameter and knurl. Grip comfort decides whether a set actually gets used for higher-rep work.

Points to weigh up

Rubber or urethane coating protects flooring and reduces noise compared to bare cast iron.

Priced at R2 470, it is the 68th of 118 dumbbells we list (R70 to R90 612). Worth comparing before you settle.

Check that heads stay tight on the handles, particularly on lower-cost sets, and keep them off concrete where possible.

For context on how often adults should be training muscle groups, the World Health Organization physical activity guidelines are a sensible, independent starting point.

Commercial and home equipment differ mainly in duty cycle — how many hours a day the frame, bearings and upholstery are designed to take. Equipment built for occasional use will usually survive a home routine comfortably but will not last on a busy floor, and the difference shows in the parts you cannot see rather than the finish.
