Collection: Horizon Fitness Equipment
Horizon Fitness is a home cardio brand, and our South African range is deliberately focused: treadmills, exercise bikes and elliptical trainers, plus a small number of multi gyms and benches. Horizon machines are built for the household that trains four or five times a week, and they are specified accordingly — quieter drive systems, folding decks and sensible footprints matter more in a home than a headline maximum user weight ever will.
Guides worth reading first
- Best entry-level treadmills in South Africa — Horizon owns this bracket; here is where each model sits.
- Quiet folding treadmills for apartments — how flat the Evolve 3.0 really folds, and what neighbours hear.
- Best treadmills for weight loss — why the incline motor matters more than top speed.
What the Horizon Fitness range covers
The range runs across Horizon treadmills, exercise bikes and elliptical trainers, with a handful of multi gyms and benches on the strength side for rooms that need both.
How many hours a week will it actually run?
This is the only question that reliably predicts whether someone is happy with a cardio purchase two years later, and almost nobody asks it before buying.
Under roughly ten hours a week, a home-rated machine like a Horizon is the better value by a wide margin — you are paying for a frame and motor sized correctly for the job rather than subsidising commercial tooling you will never use. Above that, particularly with multiple users or heavier runners, the maths flips and commercial treadmills or the Impulse Fitness range become cheaper over the life of the equipment.
Be honest about the number. Most households overestimate it before buying and underestimate it afterwards.
Choosing a Horizon treadmill
Look at continuous motor rating rather than peak output. Peak figures are marketing; continuous rating is what the motor sustains without heat-soaking, and it is the number that matters if anyone in the house runs rather than walks.
Deck thickness and cushioning decide comfort and longevity. A thicker deck lasts longer and can often be flipped once the running surface wears.
Folding matters in a home. Check the folded footprint and confirm the fold mechanism is assisted — an unassisted fold on a heavy deck becomes a reason not to fold it at all.
Measure ceiling height, not just floor space. Deck height plus the tallest user's height plus a hand's clearance is the real requirement. Low ceilings and raised decks are the most common reason a treadmill has to go back.
Choosing a Horizon bike or elliptical
On exercise bikes, flywheel weight and the resistance system decide the ride. Magnetic resistance is quieter and more repeatable, which matters in a house where someone is training while someone else is asleep or working. Check the seat and handlebar adjustment range against everyone who will use it.
On elliptical trainers, stride length decides comfort for taller users and ceiling clearance decides whether the machine can be used at all — the user stands on pedals already raised off the floor, so measure from pedal height, not floor height.
Common questions
Is a folding treadmill less sturdy? Not inherently, but the fold mechanism is an extra part that can wear. Check that the fold is assisted rather than a dead lift, otherwise the folding feature quietly stops being used within a month.
Treadmill or elliptical for a home? If the plan is running, treadmill. If the plan is low-impact conditioning and nobody in the house runs, the elliptical costs less to own, makes less noise and is kinder to knees and hips.
How do I keep the noise down for neighbours? Magnetic resistance on bikes and ellipticals, a mat underneath every machine, and realistic expectations of a treadmill — impact transmits through a floor regardless of cushioning. See exercise mats and gym flooring.
Horizon Fitness prices and delivery in South Africa
Horizon Fitness prices are quoted in rand and delivery is included on every order across South Africa. Treadmills and ellipticals are booked in rather than left at a door — tell us about stairs, corners, doorway widths and loading access when you order.
Not certain which machine suits your space? Send us the room dimensions, the ceiling height and who will be using it, and we will tell you honestly which one fits — including if something else in the cardio range would serve you better.
