Best Zwift-Compatible Treadmills and Bikes in South Africa
Share
The Zwift-compatible machines we stock start with the Tunturi Competence F40 bike at R12 638 and the T50 Performance treadmill at R21 061, rising to the T90 Endurance at R43 995. All are Tunturi, all ship free nationwide.
Zwift changed indoor training by making it social and route-based rather than a number on a console. What it needs from your equipment is narrower than most people assume, and knowing that saves real money.
Below, every Zwift-ready machine in our range with current rand prices, plus what the subscription actually costs to run in South Africa.
What does Zwift actually need from a machine?
Data out, at minimum. The machine must broadcast speed and, for bikes, power over Bluetooth or ANT+. For the full experience it also needs to accept control, so Zwift can adjust incline or resistance to match the terrain.
Treadmills and bikes work differently here. Zwift reads speed from a treadmill and pace becomes your avatar's pace. On a bike, Zwift reads power in watts, which is why bike compatibility is more demanding and why power accuracy matters.
- Broadcast only: Zwift reads your data, you adjust the machine manually. Works fine.
- Controllable: Zwift drives incline or resistance to match the route. This is the full version.
- Neither: you can still use Zwift with a separate sensor, with caveats.
Which treadmills work with Zwift in South Africa?
Tunturi T100 Centuri, R31 281.
Four machines: the T50 Performance at R21 061, the Signature T60 at R25 514, the T100 Centuri Performance at R31 281 and the T90 Endurance at R43 995.
| Machine | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Tunturi T50 Performance | R21 061 | Getting onto Zwift for the least money |
| Tunturi Signature T60 | R25 514 | More deck and a stronger motor |
| Tunturi T100 Centuri | R31 281 | Regular, higher-mileage running |
| Tunturi T90 Endurance | R43 995 | AC motor, near-commercial duty |
Prices are correct at the time of writing. All four come from the Tunturi range, which is the line that has committed hardest to open connectivity in this market.
Which is the cheapest way onto Zwift?
Competence F40, R12 638 — the cheapest Zwift-ready machine we stock.
The Tunturi Competence F40 upright bike at R12 638. It is roughly R8 400 less than the cheapest Zwift treadmill, and for most people cycling on Zwift is the better experience anyway.
That is worth saying plainly. Zwift was built for cycling first, and the cycling world inside it is far larger and more active than the running one. If you are choosing between a Zwift bike and a Zwift treadmill purely to try the platform, the bike is the cheaper and richer entry.
If you specifically want to run, the T50 Performance at R21 061 is the floor. Below that price nothing in our range talks to Zwift properly, and pretending otherwise would waste your money.
Which bikes and ellipticals work with Zwift?
E60r Signature recumbent, R24 054.
Three more: the E50r Performance recumbent at R19 601, the E60r Signature recumbent at R24 054 and the Signature C65 elliptical at R21 134.
The recumbents are an underrated option. If you have a back or hip issue that makes an upright bike uncomfortable, a Zwift-ready recumbent gives you the same platform with a riding position you can actually sustain for an hour.
The C65 elliptical is the outlier and the one people forget exists. Zwift on an elliptical is a genuinely low-impact way to accumulate volume, and it suits anyone managing a running injury. See the wider ellipticals and elliptical trainers ranges.
What about Wattbike and serious indoor cycling?
For cyclists training to power, the Wattbike range is where the conversation ends up. These are connected indoor bikes built around accurate power measurement rather than around a screen, and they are priced accordingly at R66 700 and up.
That is a different purchase from a Zwift-ready exercise bike. A Wattbike is bought by someone whose training is governed by watts and who needs the numbers to be trustworthy. If that is not you, the Competence F40 at R12 638 will give you the Zwift experience for a fraction of it.
In between sit the app-connected spin bikes — the Yesoul G1m Plus at R21 896 and the Sole KB900 at R14 997. Browse spinning bikes and cycles for the full range.
What does Zwift cost to run in South Africa?
Zwift is a monthly subscription, billed separately and not included with any machine. Budget for it from the start, and check the current price on Zwift's own site before you commit, since subscription pricing changes.
The figure that matters is the five-year total. It is entirely possible for subscription costs to exceed the price gap between two treadmills, which means the cheaper machine plus a subscription can be the more expensive path. Do that arithmetic before choosing.
Free alternatives exist and are worth trying first. Most connected machines log to free apps perfectly well, and if what you actually want is a record of your sessions rather than a virtual world, you may not need a subscription at all. Our post on whether smart treadmills are worth it goes through that trade-off.
What else do you need besides the machine?
A device to run Zwift on, a stable internet connection, and somewhere to put the screen. The machine broadcasts data; Zwift itself runs on your phone, tablet, laptop or TV, not on the treadmill.
The device
A phone works. A tablet is better because the world is easier to see. A laptop or TV is best for group rides. You do not need to buy anything new if you already own any of these.
Connection
Zwift streams a live world, so it needs a working internet connection throughout the session. A fibre line handles it comfortably; a weak mobile signal in a garage or outbuilding is the more common problem, and a mesh extender usually solves it.
The space
Ventilation matters more than people expect, because Zwift sessions tend to be harder than freestyle ones. A fan is not a luxury. A protective floor mat at R1 224 protects the floor and cuts noise — see gym flooring and exercise mats.
