The four pieces that make a home platform
A rack, a bench, a bar and a set of plates is the complete setup most home lifters actually need, and Vanguard covers all four. That is worth checking as a package before assembling one piece at a time from different ranges — mixed orders mean mixed delivery dates and, more often than people expect, a bar that does not sit correctly in the hooks it was not designed for.
On the rack, check upright gauge, hole spacing through the pressing range and whether the J-hook liners are replaceable. Confirm internal width against your bar and that the sleeves clear the hooks with plates loaded.
On the bench, pad width and the back-pad-to-seat gap matter more than the load rating for home use. Adjustability decides how many people find it comfortable.
On the bar, the load rating needs headroom above your working weights — a bar rated close to your top set will not last. Knurling and whip change how the bar feels: aggressive knurl suits pulling, moderate knurl is more comfortable for high-rep work.
On the plates, rubber and bumper plates can be dropped and protect your floor; cast iron is more compact for the same weight and usually cheaper. Put gym flooring down in the loading zone either way.
Vanguard cardio
The treadmills in this range are home-rated. Look at continuous motor rating rather than peak, deck thickness, and the folded footprint if the machine has to move out of the way between sessions. Measure ceiling height as well as floor area.
The spin bikes are judged on flywheel weight, resistance type and adjustment range. Heavier flywheels give a smoother stroke; magnetic resistance is quieter and needs less maintenance than felt pads, which wear and need replacing.

Common questions
Can I build a full home gym from Vanguard alone? For a lifting platform plus one cardio machine, yes — that is what the range is shaped for. If you want machine-based training or a deep dumbbell selection, you will be mixing in UBench or Active.
What should I buy first? The rack. Everything else works around it, and it is the piece you are least likely to replace. Bar and plates next, bench third, cardio last — cardio is the easiest thing to add later without disrupting the layout.
Bumper plates or cast iron? Bumpers if you deadlift and may drop the bar, or if the floor needs protecting. Cast iron if space is tight and the bar is always lowered under control — same weight, smaller footprint on the sleeve, usually cheaper.
